Conor Smith
2017 | Robert Felix Memorial ScholarshipEducation: University of New Hampshire
Pursued Degree: Forest Technology
Expected to graduate: May 2018
My name is Conor Smith, and I am a student at the University of New Hampshire. My major is Forest Technology at the Thompson School of Applied Science, which will give me a good, hands on experience learning about general tree health and give me a look into many different forestry practices from managing a stand of timber all the way to developing a merchantable wood product. This will prepare me for my future goals of owning my own business as a licensed arborist and perhaps managing my own stand for maple sugaring production. At UNH, I work for Farm Services, which is responsible for all the equipment maintenance, as well as the production and purchase of forages and bedding for the University’s farms. I am also a member of the UNH Woodsmen’s Team which competes in regional timber sport competitions. Additionally, I am a member of the UNH Dairy Club which is a part of a national organization. We also host and compete in regional livestock competitions. Finally, I continue to participate in my 4-H and FFA clubs and am pursuing my FFA American Degree. This scholarship will be a tremendous help in paying for my second year at UNH. I cannot express how thankful I am to be awarded the extremely generous $5,000 amount for this scholarship. I would like to sincerely thank the Board of Trustees at TREE Fund, as well as the TREE Fund organization as a whole.
