My name is Timothy Lentz, and I just completed my first semester in the Landscape Architecture program at the University of Delaware. Landscape Architecture is a great fit for my interests and goals, because it combines my passion for science and the environment with my love of art and design.
I sampled many common competitive sports growing up in eastern Pennsylvania, but did not find my niche. I gave art a try when I was 6 years old, enrolling in a weekly art class at the Baum School of Art in Allentown. I enjoyed it very much, discovered I had artistic talent, and attended regularly for the next 12 years, sometimes winning the top scholarship for my age group. In school, I excelled in the math and sciences and in middle school, I won the highest distinction in the PA state science fair.
In high school, I found my area of athletic endeavor in outdoor adventure sports. I greatly enjoy the combination of athleticism and nature – such as hiking, white water kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, and surfing. Through these adventures, rock climbing became my favorite outdoor activity. I have been active in the Rock Climbing Club at UD and personally have traveled to California, Utah and Nevada to do some novice climbing. When I am on the rock, I am truly in the moment with nature. These experiences contribute to my interests and ideas in landscape architecture.
