Warren Hoselton selected for Ken Ottman Award

The TREE Fund is pleased to announce that Warren Hoselton (a.k.a. Professor Elwood Pricklethorn) has been selected to receive the Ken Ottman Award in recognition of his volunteer service to the TREE Fund.

Team Canada’s irrepressible Warren Hoselton rode his first Tour des Trees in 2003, and debuted his ‘arbor-ego,’ Professor Elwood Pricklethorn, in 2009 in Toronto, where he is Parks Supervisor for Toronto Island. Warren introduced the Professor to the STIHL Tour des Trees (with help from fellow Tour rider Terrill Collier) in an impromptu performance in 2010, and the Professor was invited to join the Tour as its official Arborifessor in 2011.

Professor Pricklethorn offers his engaging short course in Arboriculture 101 to kids and their families at every opportunity. The Prof’s interactive photosynthesis demonstration was a hit on both sides of the US/Canada border in 2013, and he has enlisted thousands of fans to his campaign to “give trees a chance” since his first performance in 2009. Nobody plants the wrong tree in the wrong place after meeting Professor Pricklethorn!

Warren also was a BIG contributor to the 2013 STIHL Tour des Trees’ ‘international cycling adventure’ through New York and Ontario. He helped plan the Canadian route, recruited cyclists and volunteers, collaborated on event planning and introduced us to his wonderful family members and friends when we visited his hometown of Cobourg, ON.

Warren will be honored with an official Ottman Award beer stein on August 3 at the Welcome Ceremony of the 2014 ISA Conference and Trade Show in Milwaukee.

Congratulations, Warren! We’re thrilled to recognize all that you do for trees, for kids, for the Tour and for the TREE Fund.
