Effect of Pruning Type on Crown Motion
2011 | Matt Follett, University of Quebec at Montreal
There is still debate in the literature – and within industry – as to the effect of specific pruning practices on tree motion and subsequent stem loading. Through insitu testing of standard industry pruning (crown thinning and crown reduction) this study will help to build upon and test the current models of crown motion. The project will examine damping properties of mature trees in an urban setting for one growing season. Results will be used to further our understanding of the complex systems that enable trees to withstand wind, and ensure we are providing best practices within the arboricultural industry.
