John Wright Memorial Scholarship Winner Announced: Summer 2012

The John Wright Memorial Scholarship is available to high school seniors and returning college students pursuing careers related to arboriculture. Established in 2008 by Wright Tree Service of Des Moines, IA, the award was created to help undergraduate students attend college without accumulating burdensome debt.

 

 

 

 

2012-13 John Wright Memorial Scholarship Winner:

  • William C. Suplit (University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point)
    • Pursued degree: B.S., Urban Forestry
    • Expected to graduate:  2014

William holds an Associate’s Degree in Urban Forestry from Wisconsin’s Mid-State Technical College. This summer he will attend the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) College of Natural Resources Field Training at Treehaven, a 6-week program offering field experience in forestry, wildlife management, soil science, and water resources.

A resident of Stow, OH, he is a student member of the Ohio, Illinois and Wisconsin Chapters of ISA, and represented Mid-State Technical College in the tree climbing competition at the Tree Care Industry Expo in 2010 and 2011.

William has worked for the City of Stow’s Urban Forestry department, The Davey Tree Expert Company’s landscaping division, his family’s landscaping business and his own small tree service. He has volunteered with the Student Conservation Association in Golden Trout Wilderness, CA and Saguaro National Park, AZ, and is an Eagle Scout.
