New York City’s Million Trees Training Program (MTTP), a five-year workforce development program for underemployed NYC youth, saw 75% of its 2010 -11 arboriculture trainees move on to jobs in arboriculture following graduation this spring. The TREE Fund, working with its industry partners and NYC’s Dept. of Parks and Recreation, facilitated the development and implementation of the MTTP arboriculture training track in 2009. Eleven trainees are selected each year to receive hands-on training provided by industry experts from Bartlett Tree Care Experts, Asplundh Tree Experts, The Davey Tree Expert Company and STIHL USA.
